 FROM INSIDE COVER:

This book portrays a shocking record of mass slaughter and massive persecution of the Serbian Orthodox population in the Nazi puppet state of Croatia in the years of 1941 - 1945. In this mass extermination effort some 750,000 Serbs - men, women and children - perished, along with most of their clergymen and their churches. The Jews although much less numerous than the Serbs met the same fate.

These systematic and brutal massacres were at times even too much for the Nazis to tolerate. The perpetrators of these crimes are the Croatian Ustashi, a nazi-fascist movement under the leadership of the notorious Ante Pavelich. In proportion to the population, these Nazi puppets exceeded even what the nazis themselves had done in Germany. And those that they did not exterminate, they sought - by fire and sword - to convert to Roman Catholicism.

The revolting fact is that the Ustashi were actively aided in their diabolical work of extermination and persecution by sizable segments of the Croatian Catholic clergy, many of whose members were also members of the Ustashi organization. This is not a blind charge by the author, for he cites names and places, frequently using their own sources. This book is strong medicine, and any one who reads it must be prepared to come away shocked and deeply disturbed.

BACK COVER (About the author):

Edmond Paris was born in Paris of a university family of the Roman Catholic religion. Possessing a mind open and active to all kinds of philosophical, religious and social questions, he followed the courses at the Sorbonne assiduously, completing his education with sojourns in various other intellectual centers, such as Rome, Geneva, Salamanca, and Montreal. Always careful to remain in contact with reality, he traveled widely, comparing the ideas which he had acquired with "actual experience."

Combined with his vast culture is his love for truth, and this is clearly apparent in his books as well as in his lectures, which made him a historical philosopher, a writer freed from any prejudice, and a keen observer of his epoch...

THE INTRODUCTION of the book starts as following:

Quote:

The greatest genocide during World War II, in proportion to nation's population, took place, not in Nazi Germany but in Nazi-created puppet state of Croatia. There, in the years 1941-1945, some 750,000 Serbs, 60,000 Jews and 26,000 Gypsies -- men, women and children -- perished in a gigantic holocaust. These are the figures used by most foreign authors, especially Germans, who were in the best position to know...

...The magnitude and the bestial nature of these atrocities makes it difficult to believe that such a thing could have happened in an allegedly civilized part of the world. Yet even a book such as this can attempt to tell only a part of the story.

(End quote)

Crushing Serbian heads with hammers
Victim of a special group of Ustashi called "skull crashers."

A saw on a Serbian neck
The Ustashi very often used the most primitive weapons, such as forks, spades, hammers and saws, to torture their victims prior to their execution... In this photograph Ustashi are holding a knife, a gun and a saw. They are torturing an Orthodox Serb prior to executing him.

Ustashi enjoyed mutilating people
An Ustashi, with a sadistic smile on his face is chopping off a man's head with an axe. The axe is just entering the neck.

They never had enough.
"His legs were broken, ears cut off, eyes gourged, chest stabbed and finally the heart was extracted."

Special target: Serbian Orthodox priests and Jewish Rabbis
Job done. Smiling Ustashi hold severed head of a priest by the hair.

Games with the Serbian heads

Raped - and tortured!
The same (and worse) done to the women.

And children...

Women and children en masse expelled ... or worse
